Statement

I normally make large scale metal sculptures with traditional craft techniques; blacksmithing and silversmithing.

Representing joint and connection has been my main theme. I have found the charm of joint making when I needed to connect two pieces within my large sculptures. The metalwork on each conjunction has had to be made with acute accuracy. As an example holes need to be positioned exactly the same size and place at each connection, otherwise they would not be able to be united. I realised the structural element is fascinating to me as the armature gains great toughness and stickability. I have been trying to use that effectively in each of my works.
